In Sony’s second State of Play broadcast, we finally received an updated look at Final Fantasy 7 Remake. Square Enix’s re-imagining of the classic PlayStation One RPG looked very, very good with hack and slash combat, stellar visuals, and a familiar face. Check it out below.

Naturally, we’re talking about Aerith, the iconic flower girl that would change the lives of our heroes. Her classic meeting with Cloud is showcased, but an encounter with a you-know-who is also teased. Square Enix promised “more to come” in June, which is conveniently when the company’s E3 2019 broadcast takes place.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake has had quite the long development history. First revealed at E3 2015, the title would see few updates since then (including gameplay footage at PlayStation Experience 2015). Originally, it was being developed with CyberConnect2, but would shift to being an internal project in 2017. Most recently, Naoko Hamaguchi was named as co-director along with Tetsuya Nomura.
