Being an RPG game, there is never enough gold to go around in Hogwarts Legacy. Once the game starts, there will be a never-ending list of outfits, potions, recipes, ingredients, and furniture. Moreover, if you want to progress in the story, you’ll have to spend thousands of gold on upgrades and items alone.

The game doesn’t make it any easier by limiting the ways you can earn gold. You can’t sell ingredients or items in bulk. All you can sell are gear pieces and those are limited by your inventory. You’ll have to be efficient if you want to make money quickly in Hogwarts Legacy and this guide will help you achieve that goal. Let’s begin!

The basic of Galleon Farming in Hogwarts Legacy

Early-game farming differs greatly from late-game farming. All combined, there are a total of three methods of farming. The first two (opening chests and selling gear) are viable in the early phase. You’ll have to adopt a different strategy if you want to earn enough money during the late part. Here is a brief overview of all the farming techniques.

Selling Gear

You have only 20 gear slots, so there is no use for older gear once you find something new and powerful. Make it a point to always sell your older gear. Destroying them might save you some time, but you can travel to Hogsmeade at any point, and the profit, as little as they may be, is always worth it (at least during the early game).

If your worry about appearance is preventing you from changing into other gear then don’t be. Hogwarts Legacy doesn’t alter your looks once you equip new gear. So, you can maintain your old appearance without losing any stats. Selling gears will net profits of around 90-160 gold coins. It’s not much, but just enough to see you through the early game.

Opening Eye Chests

Opening Eye Chests is a quick one-way method to farm Gold. Each chest gives 500 Galleons and can help you build a small fortune in the small-mid game. You’ll have to use the Disillusionment spell in order to open an Eye Chest. The Chests close as you approach them and the spell is the only way to get close to them and eventually open them. The spell is also quite easy to come by and you’ll unlock it quite early in the main story.

After you learn the lockpicking spell, you’ll be able to break into houses in Hogsmeade and loot all the chests you want. However, you should note that this particular method is not repeatable. Chests don’t respawn/refresh after you open them. They offer a one-time reward, which is also quite significant in the early game, so spend it wisely.

Catching Magical Beasts

Trading Magical Beasts is by far the best way to farm gold. You can trade all Magical beasts for 120 coins. So, catching difficult and more powerful beasts offers no additional incentive. It’ll cost you time and resources but won’t yield any extra benefits.

The easiest beast you can farm is the Puffskeins. They are easy to catch and their dens can be found near Hogsmeade. You can find one den towards the southwest of Hogsmeade which’ll be automatically marked during the Nab-Sack main quest. You can catch up to 10 or more of these creatures in a few minutes and sell them in bulk for 1,200 coins or more, per den.

If you’re choosing this method as your preferred means of earning coins, make sure to upgrade Levioso so that you can stun multiple beasts at once. It’ll make hunting them and other small beasts much easier.

Once you’ve cleared out a den, you’ll have to leave it to let them respawn. The respawn time is 3 days. Use fast travel to go to Hogwarts or Hogsmeade during this time. Or, you can also hunt other creatures in the neighboring regions, such as the Hippogriff, Mooncalf, Unicorn, Giant Purple Toad, etc.

Ask NPCs for Extra Reward Money

Occasionally, after completing a mission, you can ask NPCs for extra gold for your trouble. You should always pick that option without hesitation. Don’t worry because it won’t affect your storyline or the gameplay in any way. There is no penalty in asking for some extra coins, especially when the upgrades don’t come cheap.
