It is a spinoff release in the Yakuza franchise, and is set between the events of Yakuza 6: The Song of Life and Yakuza: Like a Dragon, with series mainstay Kazuma Kiryu returning as protagonist.

RGG Studio boss Masayoshi Yokoyama says that the series is no longer focused on the Yakuza, which is why its Western name has changed.
Focusing on Kiryu's story between Yakuza 6 and Like a Dragon 8, the title is coming to Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5, and PC.
