PlayStation VR Has Partial Support For PC And Other Consoles, It Sounds Like

Albeit not exactly in the way that you might think.

The one thing that separates PlayStation VR from the Oculus Rift and especially the HTC Vive is that it’s a closed system- it will work only with PlayStation 4 consoles, unlike the other VR headsets on the market, that will work with any supported device. At least, that’s what we thought at first. Apparently, users of the device on Reddit have reported that the PSVR does have some kind of unofficial support for the PC, and even for other consoles.

In Cinematic Mode, which is when the PSVR simply acts as a passthrough and displays an image through HDMI on the headset screen (albeit in a virtually rendered ‘theater’), it seems like connecting the PSVR to a PC, Xbox, Wii, or any other device via HDMI will keep the headset running. Not only will the headset keep running, it will display the PC, Xbox, or Wii image in the Cinematic Mode. The only limitation is that the headset must remain plugged in to the PS4 via USB.

I can’t imagine that this is an officially supported feature, but hey, for those of you who want the illusion of playing Mario Kart on a big screen cinema, at least now you have the option.
