In a recent interview with IGN following the acquisition of Bluepoint Games, head of PlayStation Studios Hermen Hulst has said PlayStation isn’t done with studio acquisitions. During the interview, Hulst said that the company will continue to look for potential partnership opportunities and acquisitions in the future.

Hermen Hulst says that PlayStation is always open for new working relationships, but it requires the studio to have a quality-first approach to development. Hulst also says that PlayStation also looks into the studio’s capability to create original and innovative content, which is an essential part for making its roster of studios diverse.

“We are open always to building new relationships or bringing people in-house, but only if we adhere to the quality-first mentality and the right kind of innovative content, new experiences, diverse experiences. Because all of these teams, they share a lot, but they’re also very different from one another, and that’s what I really like,” Hulst said. And I think that’s what the PlayStation audience, the PlayStation fans, deserve, it’s that diverse slate of games coming out of PlayStation Studios.”

In the same interview, head of Bluepoint Games Marco Thrust also confirmed that the team’s next project will be original content, as opposed to full-fledged remakes that the studio is best known for. While PlayStation’s recent moves haven’t been all in good faith towards fans, these statements from Hulst do open the door for exciting developments in the future.
