The Elder Scrolls 6: Skyrim Should Support Xbox One’s Backwards Compatibility To Make The Wait Easier

Really, this should have happened last year.

One of the most popular games in the Xbox 360’s library was The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Bethesda’s fifth entry in their flagship RPG franchise was the one that saw them break into the mainstream, and it remains one of the best received games in the Xbox 360’s enduring library yet. So it’s a surprise that so far, there has been no movement on making the game backwards compatible on the Xbox One.

It’s even more surprising, because Bethesda have been a loud proponent of Microsoft’s backwards compatibility initiative- Fallout 3 was one of the first games announced to be supporting the service, and sure enough, it was available there, very near the service’s launch. So why have they not made the effort to make the far more popular Skyrim available on the Xbox One as well?

This should be a no brainer. While Bethesda stand to gain nothing from a move like this in a strictly monetary sense, it would keep the brand alive and at the forefront of players’ minds, as Bethesda themselves double down on what will undoubtedly be a long development cycle for The Elder Scrolls 6. Plus, it will also make the wait easier for players- at least on the Xbox One.

Bethesda and Microsoft share a very close, strong, working relationship- so this is basically a no brainer. Hopefully, this will be one of the announcements Bethesda make at E3 this year (though personally, I wouldn’t say no to a full fledged remaster, either).
