The Last of Us Part 1

The Last of Us Part 1, Naughty Dog’s ground-up remake of its classic action-adventure, is only a few days from release. While a launch trailer is available, showcasing even more classic scenes rendered in stunning fidelity, a new video goes a bit more into some of the changes made. Check it out below.

Some differences discussed include the opening scene with Joel and Sara, which has a “physicality” in the remake that the developer couldn’t convey in the original. An example of all the art being rebuilt from scratch is the back rooms in the Boston State House Museum. Instead of generic offices, there are busts of American colonial figures, an art restoration state, and much more, which adds to the immersion.

There’s also the improved AI, which offers more dynamic encounters. Players can play the same battle ten times and seemingly discover ten different results. Of course, everything is in service to the story. As game director Matthew Gallant notes, “We want to be very faithful to the original experience, to be very true to what fans love about that game, and give them the best version of this game possible.”

The Last of Us Part 1 is out on September 2nd for PS5. It’s also coming to PC, but a release date hasn’t been confirmed.
